Obituary

Gertrude Gertie Hansen, 92, of Estelline, SD died Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Funeral Services have been set for 10:00am Friday, August 4, 2006 at the Estelline American Legion. Visitation will be Thursday, August 3, 2006 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Gertrude Tuin was born June 25, 1914 to Tom and Jennie (Kruiter) Tuin in Lyons, IA. As a young woman she moved to Bend, OR. She was united in marriage to Alvin W. Hansen in Tacoma, WA on November 10, 1938. They owned and operated a service station in Bend, OR. They moved to the Hayti, SD area in the early 1940s where they farmed near Estelline. They continued to farm until retiring and moving into Estelline in 1977. They entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in 1999. Gertrude passed away at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 7 days. Gertrude enjoyed being a homemaker and helping on the farm while raising their seven children. Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Dorothy Bergh and her husband Him of Spicer, MN, Judy Bergh and her husband Dale of Canton, SD; four sons, Thomas Hansen and his wife Fern of Kindred, ND, Robert Hansen and his wife Viv of Jefferson, SD, Roger Hansen and his wife Diane of Prairie Farm, WI and Kenneth Hansen and his wife Ellen of Estelline; one son-in-law, Leland Miller of Woodbury, MN; sisters, Minnie Leithhead and her husband Harry of Camp Verde, AZ, Hilda Knutson of Estelline, SD and Adeline Rhoads of Lincoln, NE; brother, Ben Tuin of Sioux Center, IA; brother-in-law, Jack Angelbeck of San Bernardino, CA; sister-in-law, Beverly Tuin of Bonners Ferry, ID; twenty seven grandchildren, fifty three great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Gertie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin, daughter, Betty Miller, sisters, Tillie Hansen, Ann Freesemann and Jean Angelbeck, brothers, John Tuin and Ralph Tuin, granddaughter, Emilie Miller and infant grandson, Timothy Hansen.
