Gladys E. Force Estelline, SD Gladys E. Force was born on March 19, 1912 in Antler, North Dakota the daughter of John and Marie (Dirkes) Artz. She died on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Estelline Care Center in Estelline at the age of 94. Gladys received her education in Antler, North Dakota and was a graduate of the Antler High School in 1929. She continued her education at Creighton Memorial St. Josephs Hospital in Omaha, NE where she received her nursing degree. She then attended the University of Minnesota where she continued her education in Public Health Nursing and was employed for several months in Minneapolis with Community Health. She then moved to Longmont, CO, where she was employed as the school nurse for one year, and the US Public Health Service for one year in Saguache, CO. She was united in marriage to Ronald Force on December 26, 1936 in Denver, CO. In 1937, they moved to Estelline, SD where she worked with her husband as a dental assistant. Ronald died on August 18, 1977 in Estelline. Gladys has continued to make Estelline her home. She was a member of the St. Frances deSales Catholic Church, past president of the Alter Society and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hospital Board and the Advisory Council at Atco Enterprises for four years. Gladys is survived by two sons James Force (Marion) of Madison, WI, Philip Force (Mary Ann) of Little Falls, MN; one daughter Jeanne Magee (Robert) of Raytown, MO; ten Grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister Marquerite Schuller of Devils lake, ND She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Ronald, four brothers and three sisters.
