Gladys Hutt Estelline, South Dakota Funeral Service 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 5, 2006 Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church Estelline, South Dakota Interment Hillcrest Cemetery, Estelline, South Dakota Visitation 4PM to 8PM Thursday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Gladys Genevia (Schmidt) Hutt, daughter of Diedrich and Emma (Balgren) Schmidt, was born July 29, 1921 on a farm in Oak Lake Township, Brookings County, near White, South Dakota. Gladys was baptized at Argo Lutheran Church. She received her education in Oak Lake District #62 in Brookings County and attended White High School. She was confirmed in Frazier Township, Minnesota on April 10, 1938. Gladys was united in marriage to Carl Hutt, Jr. on April 12, 1942 in Estelline, South Dakota. After their marriage they farmed north of Estelline and Gladys was employed as head cook at the Estelline School for over 25 years. She truly enjoyed those years working with the children at school. They remained on the farm until August of 2000 when Carl entered the Deuel County Nursing Home and Gladys went to the assisted living apartments so she was close to him. They celebrated 60 years of marriage in April of 2002. Gladys remained in the assisted living until April of 2004 when she happily returned to her home town and entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. She died on Monday, May 1, 2006 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 2 days. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline, the Ladies Aid and the North of Town Birthday Club. She enjoyed doing craft work and especially spending time with her family and friends. While at the nursing home Gladys was involved in various activities and helped with the newsletter. Grateful for having shared her life are five children, Shirley Watland and her husband Alfred of Castlewood, Diane Appel and her husband Melvin of Watertown, SD, Sharon Remmers and her husband Ron of Hartford, SD, Carl D. Hutt of Plymouth, MN and his special friend Terri Sims and David Hutt and his wife Deb of Recluse, WY; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Miller of Truman, MN, Emalyn Fitzler and her husband Rueben of Cape Girardeau, MO, Marian Kruse and her husband Raymond of Rapid City, SD and Esther Begalka of Clear Lake, SD; one brother, William Bill Schmidt and his wife Harriet of Belle Fourche, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl on May 12, 2002; her daughter Carol in 1945; her parents; two brothers Fred and Elmer; and four sisters, Minnie, Ruth, Cora and Dorothy.
