Gladys "Bernice" Reitzel, 91, of Estelline, formerly of Castlewood, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, February 22, 2016 at Hamlin Reformed Church in rural Castlewood. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood.

Gladys Bernice Veneklasen was born on April 27, 1924 in Hamlin County, SD, the daughter of John and Jane (Heitbrink) Veneklasen. She received her education in Cozy Cottage near Dempster, SD. She was united in marriage to Henry Reitzel on November 1, 1948 near Castlewood, SD. After their marriage they farmed near Castlewood. In 1985, Bernice was employed at the Heath Food Center in Watertown, SD until July of 2000.

She was a member of the Hamlin Reformed Church, The Ladies Aid and the American Legion Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed reading.

Bernice is survived by her four grandchildren, Chuck (Shelly) Reitzel, of Sioux Falls, SD, Terry Reitzel, of Yuma City, CA, Ryan Reitzel, of Sioux Falls, SD and Todd Reitzel, of Rapid City, SD; seven great grandchildren, Mason, Millie (Nick), Hunter, Gunner, Dakota, Eli and Austin; one brother, Don Veneklasen, of Sioux Falls, SD and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Carl (Ruth) Reitzel, five sisters, Della, Florence, Beverly, Lorraine and June and three brothers, Robert, Leroy and John.
