Obituary

Grace I. (Johnson) Zafft, daughter of Harry and Edna (Jensen) Johnson, was born August 10, 1918 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She spent her early years and received her education in rural schools near Irene, South Dakota and Fergus Falls, Minnesota. During World War II she was employed at the Air Base in Sioux Falls and also worked at Shriver's Department Store for several years. Grace was united in marriage to Clarence Zafft on August 1, 1945 in Sioux Falls. They moved to Estelline in 1949 and after raising their four sons she was employed at Zafft's Jack and Jill which she and Clarence owned and operated for 40 years. Clarence died on December 2, 1992 in Brookings, South Dakota. Grace continued to make Estelline her home and died on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center at the age of 93 years. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline, the Ladies Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Grace enjoyed crocheting and photography. Grateful for having shared her life are four sons, Gale Zafft of Sioux Falls, Donald Zafft (Susan) of Estelline, Allan Zafft (Lisa) of LaVista, NE, Michael Zafft (Diane) of Watertown, SD; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; three sisters, Ruth Maloney of Pittsburgh, PA, Ida Anderson of Karlstad, MN, Hazel Morrison (George) of Sioux Falls; her in-laws, Herb Zafft of St. Louis Park, MN, Norman Zafft (Charlotte) of Estelline, Ruth Zafft of Canton, MN, Dennis Zafft (Tre) of Houston, TX, Phyllis Sanders (Oten) of Charlotte, NC; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends; special friends that shared time with her are Jackie Zafft, Stacy and Brinn Begalka, Missy Flegel, Tammy Ching and Pat McKee. Grace was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; her parents; 1 grandson Douglas Zafft; 1 daughter-in-law Roseanne Zafft; and one brother Harold Johnson. Her funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM Monday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
