Obituary

Harold L. Walklin, son of Howard and Laura (Thune) Walklin, was born November 27, 1927 in Hamlin County, South Dakota. He grew up and received his education in rural school in Hamlin County. After his education he worked on area farms and was united in marriage to Lavona Lammers on August 8, 1957 at her parents home in Deuel County. They farmed in Hamlin County north of Castlewood all of their married life until retiring in early 2000. Harold died on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 in Sioux Falls at the age of 84 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood where he also served as a trustee. Harold also served on the Sioux Water Board of Directors and on the Castlewood Township Board. He enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips to Canada and had made that trip for 38 years. He also enjoyed visiting friends and having lunch at Kone's Korner. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Lavona of Castlewood; three daughters, Ronna TeKrony of Castlewood, Karlene Gollnick and her husband Mike of Webster, SD, Carrie Bach and her husband Kevin of Watertown, SD; one son Duane Walklin of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Kate Wedge, Lori and Megan Gollnick, and Nate and Jenni Bach; three great grandchildren, Gavin, Allison and Lexi; four brothers, Darrel Walklin and his wife Bev of St. Cloud, MN, Roger Walklin and his wife Judy of Livonia, MI, Larry Walklin of Sioux Falls, Merle Walklin of Las Vegas, NV two sisters, Ruth Bleeker of Watertown, Geri Leemhuis of Castlewood; and a host of other relatives and friends. Harold was preceded in death by a son-in-law Gary "Shorty" TeKrony; his parents; two brothers, Jim and Billy; and four sisters, Edith Ann, Barbara, Orpha Mae and Nancy. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 21, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Castlwood. Visitation will be from 2PM to 4PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood.
