Helen L. (Wallway) Berg was born Christmas Day of 1911 on a farm in Nebraska to Fred and Emma (Larson) Wallway. She was born one of eight children and the Wallway family moved to a farm near Vienna, South Dakota in the early 1900s. She was united in marriage to Ray Berg in 1931 and they lived their married life in Lake Norden. Ray died on May 31, 1976 and Helen continued to make Lake Norden her home. She died on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at her home in Lake Norden at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 14 days. She was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church and enjoyed frequent visits from her children, grandchildren and numerous friends who will miss her. Grateful for having shared her life are one son Richard Berg (Modesta) of Del Rio, TX; two daughters, Carol Sandt (Charles) of Dell Rapids, SD and Barbara Weidlich (Leonard) of Spencer, SD; nine grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and five brothers.
