Carl Van Voortst, Officiating Interment Hamlin Reformed Cemetery Visitation 4PM to 7PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood Henry Reitzel was born on October 4, 1919 in Stearns County, Minnesota the son of Henry M. and Bertha (Sikkink) Reitzel. He received his education in rural school in Stearns County, Minnesota, moved to South Dakota in 1932 and graduated from Dempster #2 in Hamlin County. After his fathers death, Henry went to work for Alfred Sikkink at the age of 11 years. From 1941 until 1946, he served in the United States Army. He joined the Hamlin Reformed Church while serving in the South Pacific. After serving in the military, he farmed with his brother Ernest near Castlewood, SD. He was united in marriage to Gladys Bernice Veneklasen on November 1, 1948 near Castlewood. After their marriage they continued to farm near Castlewood. Henry entered the Prairie Lakes East Nursing Home in Watertown on September 25, 2004 and died on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 25 days. He was a member of the Hamlin Reformed Church and served as Deacon and Elder of the Church as well as on the cemetery committee. He also served on the church building committee, the Castlewood township board, ASC Board, the Crop Improvement Board and the Volga Creamery Board. Henry is survived by his wife Gladys Bernice Reitzel of Castlewood; one son Carl Reitzel and his wife Ruth of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three sisters Gladys Curtis of West Minister, CO, Bertha Shoop and her husband James of Watertown, SD, Delores Schooley and her husband Dick of Aberdeen, SD; two brothers Herbert Reitzel and his wife Kay of Medina, OH and Kenneth and his wife Berdine of Madison, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Ernest, Wilbur) and three sisters (Margaret, Alice and Mary).
