Hilda (Tuin) Knutson, daughter of Tom and Jennie (Kruiter) Tuin, was born February 12, 1920 at George, Iowa. She moved with her parents to South Dakota at an early age and attended school in Dempster, South Dakota. Hilda was united in marriage to Donald R. Knutson on April 19, 1941 in Dempster. After their marriage they farmed for 58 years in Hamlin County. Don died on December 14, 1999 and Hilda continued to live on the farm until entering the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in March of 2009. She died there on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the age of 95 years. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, gardening and especially spending time with her family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Joan Veldkamp and her husband Don of Windsor, CO, Jean Parks and her husband LeRoy of Nisland, SD; one son Larry Knutson and his wife Betty of Estelline; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one sister Minnie Liethead and her husband Harry of Camp Verde, AZ; and a host of other relatives and friends. Hilda was preceded in death by her husband Don; her parents; four brothers, Ralph in infancy, Ralph, John and Ben Tuin; five sisters, Ann Freesemann, Tillie Hansen, Jean Angelbeck, Gertrude Hansen and Adeline Rhoads. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Estelline American Legion Hall. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM Tuesday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery of Estelline.
