Howard Allen Geringer was born on July 14, 1925 near Bruce, South Dakota the son of Albert and Emily (Petry) Geringer. He died on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 in Estelline, SD at the age of 80. Howard attended grade school at District #112 and was a graduate of the Bruce High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army from 1944 until his discharge in 1946. He then returned home to farm with his father and brother. Howard was united in marriage to Ardis LaVonne Anderson on June 24, 1951 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural Bruce, SD. After their marriage, he continued to farm until his retirement. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline. He also served on the Church Council for many terms and as well as the Estelline School board, a minuteman for the REA, the elevator board in Bruce and the Brookings County ASCS board. He was also a 50 year member of the American Legion. Howard is survived by his wife Ardis Geringer of 54 years of Estelline, SD; his children Sheerene Minor (Scott) of Brookings, SD, Rod Geringer (Carol) of Watertown, SD, Doug Geringer (Donna) of Bruce, SD, Robin Evans (Rick) of Watertown, SD; 14 grandchildren Erin Jenks (Jonathan), Meagan Hall, Eileen Hall, Shawn Minor, Christopher Geringer, Ashley Geringer, Valerie Geringer, Jason Geringer, Reid Evans (Liz), Malory Evans, Becky Evans, Brittany Evans; two great granddaughters Kennedy Hall, Brynn Jenks and a soon to be baby Evans; his brother Charles Geringer (Darlene) of Anoka, MN, his sisters Delores Langland of Bruce, SD, June Lisle of Minneapolis, MN, many sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Phyllis Williams.
