Obituary

Funeral services for Ida Eldora E. Juntunen, 82, will be 10:00am, Monday, March 15, 2010, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD, with visitation on Sunday from 2pm until 4pm at the Geise Funeral Home in Lake Norden. She died on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden.

Ida Eldora Elisabeth Koistinen was born on June 7, 1927, in Cleveland Township near Bryant, SD, the daughter of Charles and Ida (Matoniemi) Koistinen. She was Baptized on June 14, 1927. She attended country school near Bryant and graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1945. Eldora was united in marriage to Erland Juntunen on December 10, 1945 in Watertown, SD. After their marriage they resided briefly in Berkeley, CA before returning to the Lake Norden area to farm. As a young woman she was employed as a waitress, which began a lifetime of serving others. She was employed at many different places including the Egg House, Creamery, grocery stores and the Gambles Store. In 1982 they moved into Lake Norden. Eldora later worked at the Lake Norden Nursing and Care Center. Eldora entered the Golden Age Living Center on September 11, 2008.

Eldora and Erland enjoyed many years of traveling, spending 30 winters in Arizona. She visited Finland in 1977 with her sister, returning in 2004 with her children. Eldora and Erland also traveled all over the United States including the New England States, Kentucky, Missouri and Hawaii, She volunteered at church and taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Museum Board and the Baseball Concession stand. She enjoyed making numerous crafts for friends and family.

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband Erland of Lake Norden, SD; her children Judy (Bill) Bartholow of Huron, SD, Jim (Cynthia) Juntunen of Brookings, SD; her grandchildren Mike (LeAnn) Bartholow, of Huron, SD, Bonnie Bartholow of Fife, WA, Joshua Juntunen of Vermillion, SD and Elisabeth of Sioux Falls, SD; three great grandchildren Ethan and Addison Bartholow and Ella Rose McCaffrey; one sister Elsie (Marvin) Marttila and one brother Clarence (Marie) Koistinen all of Lake Norden, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents and ten brothers.
