Irene J. 'Judy' Beste, 71, of Estelline, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, in Estelline. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the church with a Liturgical Wake Service followed by a Rosary beginning at 6:30 pm. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Irene Javier Ortega was born on June 26, 1946, in Libacao, Aklan, Republic of the Philippines, the daughter of Juan and Encarnacion (Javier) Ortega. She spent her early years growing up in Libacao. She was united in marriage to Dennis Beste in Angeles City, Republic of the Philippines on January 15, 1970. Following their marriage, the couple moved back to the United States and settled in Estelline, SD. She briefly provided daycare at her in her home. She began working at 3M in Brookings, in 1974, until her retiring for medical reasons, in 1990.

Judy collected dolls, enjoyed golfing and flower gardening. She was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church, the Alter Society, American Legion Auxilliary and Lake Region Golf Course. Her pride and joy was her chiwahaha, Angel, who she handpicked as a pup.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Beste, of Estelline, SD; one brother, Leopoldo Ortega, of the Republic of the Philippines; a special niece, Primy Carballo, of Brookings, SD, great nephew, Rudil Trias, of Estelline, SD and a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and seven sisters.
