Irene Bernice (Anderson) Dickson was born July 10, 1915 to Hilda (Gilbertson) and A. M. Anderson on a farm in Opdahl Township, Hamlin County, South Dakota. Irene was the youngest of 10 children. She met the love of her life, Melvin Dickson, at a dance during World War II. They married July 14, 1944. Together they had two children, Ronald Dean in 1946 and Phyllis Rae in 1948. The family lived near Lake Norden where Melvin worked as a farmer and carpenter and Irene as a homemaker and at an egg plant. Later in life, Irene worked at Lake Norden Care Center for 21 years. In 1969, Phyllis married Steven Ehmke and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Irene, Melvin and Ron lived on the original Dickson family farm. Melvin passed away in 1982 and Irene and Ron continued to live on the farm until 2005 when they moved the Lakeview Apartments in Lake Norden. In January 2009, Irene returned to the Lake Norden Care Center, this time as a resident. Ron joined her there in September 2009. Irene passed away quietly June 11, 2010 after a short hospital stay.
