Jack Chester Sutton born January 4, 1949 to Helen and Chester Sutton in Aberdeen, died June 29, 2023 at Estelline Nursing and Care Center. Raised on the Sutton farm south of Morristown he attended country grade school and McIntosh High School where he met his future wife, Annetta Sanow. Married at Saint Bonaventure Church on June 1, 1968, the couple gave birth to five children Amy, Emy, Jenny, Chet and Bret. The Suttons moved to Platte where Jack was named Chief of Police. He also worked for the Corson County Hi-way Department. His wit and social personality won many over.
After years of suffering the ravages of alcoholism, with hours of help from AA , his father in law, wife and multiple treatment centers, Jack finally found sobriety and recovery, sharing with everyone the number of years, days and hours he was sober. Eventually, he also, fought and conquered addiction to smoking. Proud of his accomplishment, and rightfully so, it brought reconciliation with his family, including meeting and holding his grandchildren. A sixth child, Shayla, was born to a later marriage to Shirley Nyberg and also a step-daughter, Amber Nyberg. Due to a stroke and further complicated health issues, Jack became a resident of Estelline Nursing and Care Center November, 2006, where the staff and residents provided loving care and compassion, he returned the same. They became family.
Contributing to the community was important to Jack. A farmer at heart, he requested 'the city boys' help him create a watering tank on wheels maneuvering it with his wheel chair. It was what they called a 'combined effort.' Jack began watering the flowers throughout the care facility and the city. The resident rabbit man, he cared for the rabbits and other small petting animals at the care center.
Preceded in death by his parents, three siblings-Jim, Jerry and Lula Belle. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, his best friend Glenn 'Tex' Tekrong, the staff and residents of Estelline Care Center. His family is indebted to the Care Center, his niece, Connie Johnson Glines and his great niece, Missy Fergel for years of attention and care.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday July 7, 2023 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.
