Jack C. Warborg, 79, of Estelline, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at his home in Estelline following a brief battle with cancer. Private family services will be held at a later date. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jack Charles Warborg was born on June 12, 1936 in Rock Rapids, IA, the second son of John P. and Theresa (Marso) Warborg. When he was six years old, his family moved to Estelline, SD, where he grew up and lived his entire life. He attended country school three miles from his home. He attended school through the 8
th
grade, and as was customary at the time, began working for neighbors, farming and doing chores. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, and served for six years. His unit was getting ready to deploy for Korea, when the war ended. In 1958, Jack met and was united in marriage to Karen Mitchell in February of 1959. They were blessed with four children, Julie, John, Vickie and Mark. They started farming and lived in Hamlin, Deuel and Brookings County for 31 years. They raised dairy cattle, hogs, stock cattle, sheep and a few chickens. His love for farming and the earth was never ending. Spring was his favorite time of year to watch things grow. Liking to stay busy, he worked for Lefty Johnson, drilling wells. He was an excellent mechanic, welder, carpenter and plumber. He would never turn anyone down who asked for help. He was truly a "Jack of all trades."
In 1990, he retired from farming and sold the farm. He worked for a period of time as a truck driver, at Dakota Tube and Angus Palm in Watertown. His heart was truly on the farm, and he returned to farming, working for Loren and Angie Bjorkland, and continued to work there until 2015.
He was an avid dancer; he especially enjoyed Polka or Waltz music. He loved hunting and fishing and relaying his stories to others. His true pride and joy was 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, hearing of and seeing their escapades always made him smile.
Jack and Karen spent 57 years together farming, dancing, raising a family and loving the Lord, but most of all laughing.
He is survived by his wife Karen Warborg, of Estelline, SD; four children, Julie Crawford, of Estelline, SD, John Warborg, of Estelline, SD, Vicky (Claire) Sutton, of Hot Springs, SD and Mark (Lisa) Warborg, of Parkers Prairie,MN; 13 grandchildren: 14 great grandchildren and one brother, Ambrose "Mick" (Brenda) Warborg, of Brookings, SD.
