James Dean Burton Andrews was born March 3, 1936, to Andrew and Dena Andrews, he was the 9th of 12 children (5girls and 6 boys). He was baptized and confirmed at the Garfield Lutheran Church. James attended Cleveland #4 school and received his G.E.D. when he joined the Army National Guard where he served for 6 years. When growing up on the family farm, James enjoyed spending time working with horses and going to rodeos and horse shows. When James was 16, he started his hard work ethic. James worked at the Lake Norden creamery as a lab technician testing the cheese, later James made butter and spent a few years in the plant dryer. He was the maintenance man for the Lake Norden low rent apartments and city night cop. James also spent time helping his sister's at the Antonen Cafe. He was in a band called Jim and the Prairie Partners, they traveled and played music in the surrounding area's. On August 11, 1973 James married the love of his life, Marla Marie Lantgen. They were joined by a baby boy, James Jr in December of the following year.
Together, James and Marla owned and operated the Park Drive Inn, Lake Norden, in 1989 they purchased the Cafe in Lake Preston and called The J & M cafe where Jim is famous for his tender roast beef and hot beef combo's. James always made his employees laugh as he walked through saying "Hot Stuff coming through and I'm not talking about the pan." Jim and Marla retired on August 13, 2018. James is the best role model, husband, father, grandfather & friend. Our family was so grateful for the opportunity to create many wonderful memories, especially, when all 7 of us were able to take a trip to Hawaii in November of 2023. James said "we have had a fairly good life, good son and daughter in law and three fine grandchildren."
