4PM to 7PM Wednesday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Estelline. A Scripture Service and Rosary will follow the visitation beginning at 7:00PM.

James Rieckman, son of Arnold and Helen (Sehr) Rieckman, was born September 11, 1951 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During his younger years Jim lived in Sisseton, South Dakota and Selby, South Dakota as well as Albert Lea, Minnesota. His elementary education was received in Hector, Minnesota and Dupree, South Dakota. Jim graduated from Custer High School in Custer, South Dakota in 1969 and also graduated from South Dakota State University in 1973. He was united in marriage to Julie Schweitzer on June 14, 1974 in Timber Lake, South Dakota. During his many years of employment, Jim worked at Gundersons Inc. of Rapid City, Farmers Home Administration of Belle Fourche, Timber Lake, and Chamberlain. While in Chamberlain he was also associated with Prudential Insurance and Spreckles Insurance. He was also with 1st Financial Insurance of Dupree and Farm Credit Services of America out of Watertown. Jim died on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in Estelline at the age of 59 years.
He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus. Jim also participated in many organizations including South Dakota Jaycees, SD JCI Senate, Dupree Rodeo Association, Dupree Community Club and the Estelline Rodeo Club. Jim was an avid gardener and loved cooking and canning as well as reading, playing golf and hosting family gatherings. Most importantly was the time he spent with Byron, AJ, Gene and Sydney.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Julie of Estelline; his children, Byron Scott Rieckman and AJ Rieckman; his son-in-law Gene Slouka of Estelline; his granddaughter, Sydney Grace Slouka; his father, Arnold Rieckman of Luverne, MN; his step-mother Janice Sehr Rieckman of Jasper, MN; Jims siblings, Colleen (Roger) Brown of Aurora, SD, Terry (Patsy) Rieckman of Salem, SD, Dennis (Kathy) Rieckman of Wall, SD, Tom (Sue) Rieckman of Columbus, NE, Jean (Joel) Haar of Mankato, MN, John (Marita) Rieckman of Clay Centr, NE, Jeff (Lori) Rieckman of Phillip, SD, Kathy (Dave) Dargatz of Watertown, SD; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Samantha Rieckman Slouka on February 25, 2005; his mother, Helen Rieckman; two infant sons, Thomas and James Rieckman; and his grandparents.
If flowers are sent, the family prefers green plants so they are able to share a living memory of Jim with others.
