Jane (DeWall) Jongeling, daughter of Alek and Arianna (Ludwig) DeWall, was born December 10, 1918, in Hamlin County, near Castlewood, South Dakota. She grew up there and attended Dempster Township Grade School #3. After her education she worked at home until her marriage to George H. Jongeling on October 14, 1938, at the Hamlin Reformed Parsonage. After their marriage they farmed southeast of Castlewood until retiring into Dempster in 1976. After Georges death on June 8, 1993, she remained in Dempster until entering the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in July of 2007. She died there on Friday, July 4, 2008 at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 24 days. She was a member of Hamlin Reformed Church, was active in the Ladies Aid and taught Sunday School for many years. Jane loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. She gave produce to countless neighbors and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are five sons, Darrel and his wife Karen, Ronald and his wife Cheryl, Arnold and his wife June, all of Castlewood, Bill and his wife Cyndee of Jonesville, MI, Tom and his wife Jean of Kansas City, MO; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Janssen of Estelline, Dena Rosenbohm of Eden Valley, MN, Eleanor Harrenga of Estelline; and a host of other relatives and friends. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Lloyd and Lester. The family is asked to gather at the church at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday for a family service.
