Obituary

Janet Lillian Dickson Janet Lillian Dickson, age 83, long time teacher in the Austin Public Schools, died at Sacred Heart Care Center Tuesday, October 10, 2006. She was born August 10, 1923 to Andrew and Anna (Paso) Dickson in Cleveland Township, Hamlin County, South Dakota. She attended Cleveland #1 grade school and graduated from Lake Norden High School. After one year of college Janet began her teaching career in a one room school and had 38 pupils. She attended summer school and another year of college by correspondence so she could teach in town. After earning her teaching degree from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota in 1954, Janet taught Cleveland #1 rural school for two years. Following that, she taught in Hayti, South Dakota grade school for several years until moving to Minnesota in 1957. She taught for 31 years in Austin at Sumner, Ellis, Webster, Woodson and Banfield Elementary Schools, retiring in 1986. A member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Janet was well liked by her students and admired by many others. She is survived by various cousins and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Andrew Dickson; two brothers, Howard and Calvin and one sister, Annabelle. Christian Burial will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 27, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Norden, South Dakota. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin and Geise Funeral Home of Estelline are in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church building fund or the Salvation Army.
