Jeanne Francis (Wadginski) Hausman, 88, died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at The Neighborhoods at Brookview, in Brookings, SD. A Celebration of her life will be held 10:00 am Monday, March 13, 2017, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, in Estelline, SD. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with a Liturgical Wake Service beginning at 4:00 pm. Rude's Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jeanne was born on May 29, 1928, in DePere, WI, to Edward and Louise Wadginski. She grew up in Pound, WI, graduating from high school at 16. Her dream was to become a nurse and because of her young age, she traveled to Pierre, SD to attend St. Mary's School of Nursing, the only school that accepted 17 year-olds in the program.

Jeanne married Mahylon 'Dick' Hausman on September 6, 1948 in Pound, WI. Over the next 22 years the couple was blessed with seven children. They moved to Estelline, SD and owned the Estelline Journal for years.

Nursing was her passion and her long career started at the Brookings Hospital in the early years of their marriage. She worked in Estelline, Clear Lake and Casa Grande, AZ for the next 40 plus years.

Over the years, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with family and friends, traveling to Arizona for the winter, enjoying happy hour, visiting relatives in Wisconsin, walking, water aerobics, playing pool, golfing, bowling, playing cards, time spent with Shirley playing penny slots and laughing; she loved life.

She attended many ball games, music programs and school functions through the years, watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participate and also spent years supporting the Green Bay Packers, talking to the television telling them to score and win, GO PACK GO!!!

She will be remembered for so many things, she made certain everyone she spent time with was in good spirits and as comfortable as they could be, no matter what their ailment was.


She is survived by her seven children, Pamela Hendrickson, of Spearfish, SD, Cathy Ching, of Brookings, SD, Mike (Nancy) Hausman, of Eagle Point, OR, Mark (Nancy) Hausman, of Brookings, SD, Patricia Hausman, of Las Vegas, NV, Donna Hausman, of Las Vegas, NV and Matt (Lisa) Hausman, of Estelline, SD; sisters, Marian Marsh, of Boulder Junction, WI and Bernice King, Palm Springs, CA; 23 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends from Estelline and Casa Grande, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mahylon and siblings, Don and Lorraine.
