Jerry James Blackketter was born August 30, 1957, in Lake Andes, SD, the 5th of six children to James and Delores Blackketter.  A lifelong South Dakota resident, he lived in Lakewood, Colorado in the last year.  Jerry can best be remembered by his triumphs, overcoming obstacles with grit and determination. After surviving a near- fatal injury at the age of 16, he endured a life of challenges, while keeping his faith steadfast. He embodied the spirit of tenacity and resiliency, known for his strong will and determination.  He never let his limitations define him, but rather had a legacy of beating the odds.

Following high school, he completed post-secondary training in Public Broadcasting from Brown Institute, Mendota Heights, MN. He had a rich and varied work history, from a combiner, baker, airport construction worker, butcher/meat cutter, and a proud former Estelline City Council member. He was skilled in small engine repair, automotive mechanics, and amazed his family and friends with his repertoire of knowledge on a myriad of topics, including world and military history. He had a generous spirit, quick to share with others. He possessed a sharp mind and keen sense of humor throughout his lifetime.  As a dedicated car enthusiast, few people could match his vast knowledge and appreciation for muscle cars and horsepower. He had an infectious laugh that warmed the soul and lifted your spirits. Quick to offer helpful advice and counsel, he was blessed with an indomitable spirit, and his family and friends are left with an irreplaceable void, but comforted knowing he is no longer in pain and is with our Lord Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his siblings, Linda (John) Vande Weerd, Bruce, SD, Debra (Chuck) Hedin, Lakewood, CO, Darrell (Ellie) Blackketter, Winona, MN, and John (Valerie) Blackketter, Durango, CO, and sister- in- law Patricia (Pat) Blackketter, Web City, MO and many nephews, nieces and cousins too numerous to mention.

He is preceded in death by his nephew Eric Blackketter, brother Robert Blackketter, and his parents, James and Delores Blackketter.

Condolences may be sent to the family through www.rudesfuneralhome.com and on www.geisefuneralhome.com
