Joy (Blumeyer) Callesen, daughter of John and Alvina (Jibbens) Blumeyer, was born September 10, 1923 at Estelline, South Dakota. She grew up and received her education in that area and helped on the family farm as a young woman. She was united in marriage to Leonard Callesen on her parent's farm near Estelline on February 14, 1945. They farmed for many years before moving to an acreage and continued to farm with their son Randall. After Leonard's death on November 9, 1999 Joy moved into Estelline. She entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center on April 15, 2013 and died there on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the age of 89 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Joy enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, traveling, shopping with Shelia, gardening and especially enjoyed her morning coffee with friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Rogene "Jean" Foster and her husband Ben of Spearfish, SD; her son Randall and his wife Shelia of Estelline; three grandsons, Scott, Brian and Adam and his wife Stephanie; three great granddaughters, Samantha, Jade and Jodi; one sister Janis Rowland and her husband Ray of Estelline; and a host of other relatives and friends. Joy was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, her parents and one brother Donald Blumeyer. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 3, 2013 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline with Pastor Dustin Bartlett officiating. Visitation will be from 2PM to 4PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.
