June Deering Carlson, 81, of Brookings, formerly of Estelline, passed away Saturday, August 13, 2022, at The Neighborhoods at Brookview. June's wishes were to donate her body to science, and memorial services will be held at a later date.
June Deering Odle was born on January 20, 1941, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Allen and Grace (Cleary) Odle. She grew up in Chicago and attended the University of Chicago for a period of time to be an Art Instructor. She then held various jobs to support her horse and dog habits. She later took a job training horses for Roger Carlson. The two later married on on October 30, 1971. They moved to Castlewood, SD and later to Estelline.
June loved raising horses and dogs with Roger. She was a member of Salvation Army in Watertown.
She is survived by her siblings, Clarence 'Skip' Odle of Cary IL, Fran Kerns of Cary, IL, Elizabeth of Illinois, Dawn Flaco of Chicago, IL, Edgar Odle of Destin, FL, Lynn Odle or Destin, FL, Retha Alexander of Knoxville, TN, Butch Swalley of Norman, OK and Bev Tubb of Nunda, SD; daughter, April (Chris) VanWormer of Clear Lake, SD, and special family friend, Robby VanWormer and family of Goodwin, SD.
She was predceded in death by her husband, Roger; son Theodore Roger Carlson, mother, Grace Ladendorf; father Allen Odle and brother Allen Odle III.
