Nellie Junice Moen was born February 23, 1924 in Lake Norden, South Dakota to John and Hilma (Simonson) Moen. She received her education in Lake Norden and graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1942. The summer of 1942 she moved to Highland Park, Michigan and worked at Vicker's and also attended their trade school. June was united in marriage to SGT. Frank Burch on March 5, 1944 in Brownsville, Texas and they lived in Dearborn, Michigan for several years. In 1960 they lived in Van Nuys, California where she was employed at Fisher Pen Company as a floor supervisor until 1975. They returned to Lake Norden and she was employed at the Lake Norden Care Center from 1979 to 1989. Frank died on March 27, 1984 in Watertown, South Dakota and on April 7, 1989 she married Orville "Toar" Marttila. He died on February 18, 2004. June died on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden at the age of 89 years. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the WELCA in Lake Norden. June enjoyed quilting and mending at the Care Center, was active at the Senior Center and delivered meals on wheels for several years. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, John Burch of Los Angeles, CA and Dave Burch and his wife Debra of Lake Norden; three grandchildren, Brian and Daniel and his wife Darcy, all of Lake Norden, Debbie of Santa Clarita, CA; two great grandchildren, Hailey and Cade; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. June was preceded in death by her two husbands, her parents, three sisters and five brothers. Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at the Olivet Cemetery near Lake Norden.
