Kathryn E. Torgersen, 98, of Estelline, SD passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center, Estelline, SD.  Immediate Private family services will be held.  Geise Funeral Chapel, Estelline, SD is assisting the family with the services.

Kathryn E. Jonker was born on September 13, 1921, in Deuel County, SD the daughter of John and Della (Appel) Jonker.

Kathryn graduated from Dist. #3 in Hamlin County in 1934.  She was united in marriage to Earl Henderschiedt on October 9, 1940, in Rock Rapids, IA.  After their marriage they farmed until 1960, when they moved into Brookings, SD.  Kathryn was then employed at the Red Owl Grocery Store in Brookings until 1980.  Earl died on January 3, 1977, in Estelline, SD.  She was then united in marriage to Rev. Raymond B. Torgersen on November 20 1977 in Estelline, SD.  After their marriage they lived in South Dakota, Kansas and Wisconsin before moving back to Estelline, SD in 1991.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship.  She was a past member of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed reading, planting flowers and gardening.

Kathryn is survived by her husband, Rev. Raymond Torgersen of Estelline; three sons, Alvin (Janet) Henderschiedt of Lake Poinsett, SD, Paul (Carmen) Torgersen of St. Louis Park, MN and John (Debby) Torgersen of Ann Arbor, MI; three grandchildren; four great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and one sister, Marjorie Quam of Brookings, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Earl; two brothers, Raymond and Albert; one sister, May; one son, David; two sisters-in-law, Lena and Verna and two brothers-in-law, Herb Quam and Soren Bertelsen.
