IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kenneth E.
Goeman
April 22, 1934 – December 5, 2017
Kenneth (Kenny) Goeman, 83, passed away on December 5, 2017 in Estelline, SD. Family will greet friends at the Geise Funeral Home in Estelline from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm on Friday, December 22, 2017.
Kenny's family respectfully request no flowers be sent, as your presence would be appreciated the most.
A lifetime resident of South Dakota, Kenneth "Kenny" was born on April 22, 1934, at the home of his parents, Sidney and Christine Goeman, in Castlewood. After their family moved near Hayti, he attended school and helped on the farm. In 1954, Kenny enlisted in the United States Army. Receiving training for guided missiles radar and communications, he served at military bases near White Sands, New Mexico and Chicago, Illinois.
On Sweethearts Day, 1957, Kenny married Connie Wagner. He worked for Watertown's Municipal Electrical Department until the young couple bought a farm near Hayti. While they were raising their four children, milking cows and farming, Kenny also worked as a Contractor and Mason. One project included construction on Estelline's hospital. In 1981, Kenny moved with his wife and youngest son to the Lake Poinsett and Estelline area. He worked for Olin Flax Straw (Rauville), Estelline Community Oil Co-op and the Estelline Elementary School as a maintenance custodian prior to his retirement.
In 2010, Kenny moved into Estelline Nursing Care Center. He regularly participated in physical therapy, bingo or checkers and enjoyed sharing chewing gum treats with staff. Prairie Lakes Hospice assisted with his final care prior to his death on December 5th, 2017.
Kenny appreciated cards, letters and calls or visits from family and friends. Fishing, reading, gardening and watching hummingbirds were a few of his favorite things. He enjoyed M&M candies and ice cream, as well as the victories of Estelline's Redmen, the Minnesota Twins or Vikings.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Kenny is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Interment at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis will be arranged at a later date.
