Obituary

Larry Lewis Vetter was born October 30, 1945 in Watertown, South Dakota to Ralph and Mary (Reitzel) Vetter. He grew up and attended school in Castlewood and graduated from Castlewood High School. Larry was united in marriage to Dee Langenfeld on August 17, 1963 at the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood. Larry and Dee made their home in Castlewood.  Larry worked in a few different occupations before becoming a dairy farmer.  He farmed until his retirement in 2003 when he entered into even more occupations as a "retiree", including the Watertown Airport and Lake Area Technical College.  Larry was also the primary "Dee's Daycare school van driver" for so many of Dee's daycare kids she took care of all those years in their home.  Larry's "say it like it is" personality and his caring, compassionate, and generous heart will be missed by the folks in Castlewood, friends he made in North Carolina, and the people he met wherever he traveled.

Larry and Dee were life-long members of the American Lutheran Church in Castlewood where Larry served on the church board and many other supportive positions over the years.

Larry died on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center at the age of 75 years.  Dee preceded Larry in glory on September 19, 2014.  Grateful for having shared his life are his five children, Lynn (Jeanie) Vetter of Wilmington, NC, LaShell (Tom) Johnson of Norwalk, IA, Vicki (Dennis) Strait of Castlewood, LeAnn (Jim) Erickson of Brandon, Landon (Lindsey) Vetter of Castlewood; 12 grandchildren, Jacob, Alexa, Kennedy, Kassidy, Lindsey, Haley, Abbey, Tess, Ellie, Liyah, Laken and Lawson; two brothers, Richard (Jan) Vetter of Rochester, MN and Steve (Deb) of Castlewood; one sister, Carna (Gary) Kruse of Watertown; in-laws, Larry Langenfeld, Spearfish, Beverly (Roger) Siefkes of Boise, ID, Gloria (Jerome) Ries of Sioux Falls, Wayne (Pam) Langenfeld of Watertown; Cynthia (David) Pommer of Castlewood; and a host of other relatives and friends.
