Lavona (Lammers) Walklin, daughter of John and Jennie (Hoftiezer) Lammers, was born November 3, 1927 in Deuel County, South Dakota. She attended rural school and grew up in that area and attended nurses training through the Watertown Hospital. She worked there for a short time before working at the Deuel County Memorial Hospital for several years. Lavona was united in marriage to Harold Walklin at her parent's home on August 8, 1957. Following their marriage they farmed in Hamlin County near Castlewood for many years before retiring in the early 2000. Following Harold's death on May 15, 2012 she continued to live on the farm. Lavona died on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at the Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 85 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Castlewood Historical Society. Lavona enjoyed quilting, embroidery and gardening, taking special pride in raising roses. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Grateful for having shared her life are three daughters, Ronna TeKrony of Castlewood, Karlene Gollnick and her husband Mike of Webster, SD, Carrie Bach and her husband Kevin of Watertown; one son Duane of Tampa, FL; five grandchildren, Kate Wedge, Lori and Megan Gollnick, and Nate and Jenni Bach; three great grandchildren, Gavin, Allison and Lexi; three sisters, Phyllis Hoitsma of Watertown, Joyce Reusink and her husband Warren of Castlewood, Agnes "Tommie" Greenfield of Castlewood; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents and one son-in-law Gary "Shorty" TeKrony. Her funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, October 7, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood. Visitation will be from 2PM to 4PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Castlewood.
