Leroy Lee Carey Lake Norden, South Dakota Military Interment Service 9:00 A.M., Monday, August 20, 2007 Black Hills National Cemetery Sturgis, South Dakota Leroy Robert Lee Carey was born July 24, 1930 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Robert and Marie (Fleischman) Carey. After graduating from high school at the age of 17 he started work at UPS as a pre-loader, later to become a Divisional Manager and retired after 38 years. He entered the United States Air Force in 1951, spent a year in Thule, Greenland and was discharged in 1955. He met his wife Joan Bjorklund in the Air Force and they were married in Pipestone, Minnesota on May 7, 1952. They lived in Texas, California, Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota. They moved to the Bjorklund Homestead east of Lake Norden in 1993. He died of congestive heart failure on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 77 years. Lee enjoyed the farm, John Deere Tractors, traveling, crossword puzzles, cards and family. He is survived by his wife Joan of Lake Norden; one daughter, Faith Spark and her husband Dennis of Urbandale, IA; two sons, Brant Carey and his wife Lynn of Canby, OR, Trent Carey and his wife Joy of Nine Mile Falls, WA; eight grandchildren, Chris, Cory, Paula, Alex, Amanda, Carey, Elizabeth and Ted; a special cousin, Richard Wisth and his wife Marion of Menominee Falls, WI; a brother-in-law, Maynard Bjorklund of Badger, SD; two sisters-in-law, Mavis Anderson and her husband Floyd of Oshkosh, WI, Ardy Gackstetter and her husband Dean of Watertown, SD; a half brother, Robert Carey of California; two step sisters and a step brother; and a host of other relatives and friends. Lee was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, one in infancy and Pat; and a brother-in-law, Herman. Memorials may be directed to the East Norden Cemetery.
