Obituary

Lex L. Wilen, 61, of Erwin, SD, passed way Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at his home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, near Lake Norden. Visitaiton will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday at the church. Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lex Landell Wilen was born on October 31, 1959, in Deadwood, SD, the son of Lance and Barbara (Koski) Wilen. He attended schools in Battle Ground, WA, Sturgis, SD, Hulett, WY, Simms, MT and graduated from   Grand Junction, CO.  He was united in Marriage to Rhonda Hemenway on August 1, 1980, in Spearfish, SD. The couple was blessed with two children, Stephen and Heather. Later in life they were blessed with 3 grandchildren, Paxton, Cloe and Cera.

Lex took to the open road, driving truck for Manfredi Motor Transit, before going to Denver Automotive and Diesel College. Following his graduation he worked for Ralph Schomp Honda in Aurora, CO. He went on to own his automotive shop in Aurora. He then moved to Wisconsin where he continued to work as a Certified Honda Mechanic until moving back to South Dakota. He trucked for a few more years before his health forced him to retire.

Lex was an excellent artist with a knack for drawing. He also wrote poetry and enjoyed working on cars, fishing and being in the outdoors. He always relished the time spent with his family. Lex was baptized and confirmed in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and loved being with his brothers and sisters in faith.

Lex passed way Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at his home at the age of 61.

Lex is survived by his two children, Stephen Wilen of Aurora, CO and Heather Wilen of Parker, CO; three grandchildren, Paxton, Cloe and Cera, of Parker, CO; father, Lance (Marilyn) Wilen of Lake Norden, SD; his brothers and sisters, Lorena (Robert) Mitchell of Sheridan, WY, Mark (Teresa) Wilen of Vienna, SD, Nancy (Todd) Rush of Rozet, WY and Andrew (Ashley) Wilen of Sioux Falls, SD; along with a host of relatives including his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Wilen; three siblings, Randy, Ann and Terrance and nephew, Marcus Wilen.
