E. Lilace (Pearson) Kastein, daughter of Albin C. and Alma M. (Bunde) Pearson, was born December 21, 1920 in Hamlin County, South Dakota. She received her education in rural school in Hamlin County and graduated from Hayti High School in 1938. Lilace continued her education at Dakota State and received her teacher's certificate. She was united in marriage to Maynard B. Kastein on November 28, 1941 in Brandt, South Dakota. Lilace taught school in Hamlin and Deuel Counties and at the Goodwin School until her retirement in 1982. Maynard died on January 29, 1976 in Sioux Falls. In 1984, she moved to Watertown and lived there until moving to Lake Norden in 1992. Lilace entered the Golden Living Center in Lake Norden in November of 2010 and died there on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the age of 91 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid and the Senior Citizens Center in Lake Norden. Grateful for having shared her life are two daughters, Darla Koisti and her husband Sheldon, Dorene Lemme and her husband Barry, all of Lake Norden; two sons, Darryl Kastein and his wife Gloria of Lake Norden, Larry Kastein and his wife Trice Ann of New Braunfels, TX; ten grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey Stormo and her husband Leo of Watertown, Joyce Amerson of Rapid City; two brothers, Jerrold Pearson and his wife Karen of Oakville, WA, Lynn Pearson of Castlewood, SD; two sisters-in-law, Lila Pearson of Hayti, Mary Pearson of Huron; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters, Marian, Nona and Arlene; and seven brothers, Darvin, Howard, Roger, Arlyn, Earl, Rolland and Omar. Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM Friday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Lake Norden.
