Lillian M. (Prouty) Yonker, daughter of William and Hilma (Paso) Prouty, was born November 23, 1916 in Hamlin County, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to John Yonker on December 28, 1940 in Watertown, South Dakota. They farmed in the Bryant, South Dakota area for many years. They were blessed with four children, John, Jerald, Karen and Don. After John's death on February 6, 1979, Lillian worked as a personal live-in caregiver to many elderly people in the DeSmet, Bryant, Castlewood and Brookings areas. On October 24, 1997 she moved to the Homestead Assisted Living in Lake Norden where she lived for 10 years. She then moved to the United Retirement Center in Brooking and lived there until the time of her death on Sunday, October 14, 2012. She attained the age of 95 years, 10 months and 21 days. Lillian loved to read and was always willing to share her strong faith in God. Puzzles and scrabble were some of her favorite past times. She enjoyed visits from family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are two sons, Jerald and his wife Faye of Dubois, WY, Don and his wife Karen of Winterset, IA; one daughter Karen of Brookings; one daughter-in-law Sharon Yonker of Lake Norden; 16 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John; one son John "Billy"; two grandchildren; Jeffrey and Darla Yonker; and five half brothers, Glen, Brace, Ole, Forde and Fred and one half sister Bessie. Lillian's funeral service will be 1:00 PM Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Holy Life Tabernacle in Brookings. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM Wednesday at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings. Burial will take place in the Kellerton Cemetery, rural Hazel, South Dakota.
