Lloyd Sikkink Jr., 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at his residence in Castlewood, SD. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at Hamlin Reformed Church in rural Castlewood, SD. Visitation will be held the night prior from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood.

Lloyd Sikkink Jr. was born on July 7, 1935, in Estelline, the son of Lloyd and Nellie (Cook) Sikkink. He grew up in Castlewood and attended Dakota Grove Dempster 1 Rural Country School in rural South Dakota. Lloyd was a lifelong member of the Hamlin Reformed Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and over 30 years on the cemetery board. Hamlin Reformed is also where he met the love of his life, Ruth Jurgens and they were united in marriage on February 12, 1959. He joined the Air Force in 1956 and took great pride in his service where he worked as an engine mechanic on the B-50 Superfortress. Lloyd and Ruth enjoyed their assignment at Kindley AFB in Bermuda until Lloyd was honorably discharged in 1960. Lloyd later described this as their honeymoon without even realizing it.  After Lloyd separated from military service, the couple moved back to Castlewood where he began to farm. His passion was farming where he thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the field and getting cattle ready for his kids in 4-H. He retired from farming and moved to Castlewood in 2007. Lloyd continued being active and even worked at the Bramble Park Zoo for a couple of years, once again fixing things at the zoo and helping in caring for the animals. Every year he loved going to the South Dakota State Fair and had been camping there for over 50 years. Many memories were made and stories told at the Fair. Lloyd enjoyed ball games and activities of any kind that his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were involved in. He also enjoyed the bus trips with Ruth to watch the Minnesota Vikings and Twins games. He loved all his grand and great-grandchildren and having them come over for ice cream. Lloyd will be remembered for his big heart, generous spirit and kindness to others.

Lloyd is survived by his children Jeffrey (Dawn) Sikkink of Castlewood SD, Sherri (Rod) Kemink of Castlewood SD, Kent (Lori) Sikkink of Milaca MN, Gerald Sikkink of Castlewood SD and Todd (Dawn) Sikkink of Castlewood SD. 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Sikkink, siblings Merle Sikkink, Marcella Pajerski, Phyllis Bruinsma, LeRoy Sikkink, Mary Bartlett and Marlys Robbins and granddaughter Savannah Rae Kemink.
