Obituary

Lloyd C. Stavick, son of Clarence and Francis (Van Heel) Stavick, was born October 19, 1935 at Sisseton, South Dakota. He received his elementary education and his first two years of high school in Sisseton and then moved to Lake Preston, South Dakota where he graduated from high school in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from January of 1956 to November of 1959 and after his discharge he enrolled at General Beadle State Teachers College in Madison. He also served in the Naval Reserve from 1962 to 1964. After graduating from college he taught in Astoria, South Dakota and later taught in Sturgis, South Dakota. Lloyd attended Oklahoma State University and received his Masters Degree in 1968. He taught in Upton, Wyoming and then returned to OSU where he received his Doctorate of Education in 1970. He taught in Watertown, South Dakota from 1970 to 1994. Following retirement, he continued to farm and was an avid artifacts hunter. Doc died on Monday, November 17, 2014 at his farm near Castlewood at the age of 79 years. Grateful for having shared his life are his son Anthony Stavick of Manhattan, NY, his daughter Lana Smunk and her husband Bob of Clear Lake, SD, their mother Marilyn Linneman and her husband Richard of Watertown, his son John D. Stavick and his fiancé Chantel Taylor of Lincoln, NE, his daughter Rebecca D. Stavick and her husband Adam Stahlecker of Omaha, NE, their mother Joyce Elizabeth Dooley Stavick and her husband James Tonner of Lula, GA; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Milton, Earl, Clifford and Marvin in infancy; and five sisters, Mabel Ellestad, Myrtle Brown, Evelyn Dickinson, Adeline Wyman and Joyce in infancy. His memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM Friday at the funeral chapel.
