Lola Middleton Schmidt Madison, South Dakota Funeral Service 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 9, 2007 Geise Funeral Home Estelline, South Dakota Rev. Terry Knudson, Officiating Interment Hillcrest Cemetery Estelline, South Dakota Visitation 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline. Lola R. Thompson, daughter of Sever and Ida (Dahl) Thompson, was born June 26, 1918 at Watertown, South Dakota. She grew up in the Watertown and Estelline areas and received her education there. She was united in marriage to Howard Middleton in Watertown in 1936. After their marriage they lived in Watertown, Estelline and St. Paul, Minnesota. She was employed at the Chester Nursing Home and was married to Hey Schmidt in Madison, South Dakota in 1972. They lived in the Madison area. He died in 1979 and she continued to make Madison her home. Lola lived in Heritage Assisted Living for three years before entering Bethel Nursing Home in 2005. She died on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Madison Community Hospital at the age of 89 years, 1 month and 8 days. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Madison. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing and garage sales. Lola was also an avid Minnesota Twins fan, loved reading Louis L?Amour books and watching Gunsmoke reruns. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Darlene Allen and her husband Charles of Watertown, SD, Richard Middleton and his wife Janice of Grand Forks, ND, Judy Carsley and her husband Les of Newberg, OR, Karen Yager and her husband Lee of Madison, SD, Fred Middleton of Lehi, UT; 18 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Sherwood of Apache Junction, AZ; and a host of other relatives and friends. Lola was preceded in death by two husbands, two sons, Jerry and David Middleton, one great grandson, her parents and six brothers and sisters.
