Obituary

Margaret Ann Geranen, 66, of Lake Norden, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018 at her home in under hospice care. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Lake Norden. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the church. Geise Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Margaret Ann Geranen was born January 14, 1952 in Watertown, South Dakota to Daniel and Ann (Norman) Mattheisen. She joined 4 siblings, Daniel, Joseph, David, and Debbie. Margaret attended the Salvation Army Church and later the 9th Avenue Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir and was baptized at age 16. Margaret attended school in Watertown until the 10th grade. As a child, she loved staying with her grandparents Bill and Bessie Norman. Margaret met and married the love of her life, Ronald Geranen on October 19, 1970. Together they had 6 children. Margaret worked in the kitchen at Memorial and St. Ann's hospitals until she had to retire because of her health.

Margaret enjoyed baking, her favorites include pumpkin bars and cookies. She especially enjoyed baking when her grandson Austin would help her make French toast and scrambled eggs. She loved spending time with family and grandchildren. She loved to babysit her grandchildren that lived close to her, but always wished that she could have babysat them all. She loved listening to Austin play his violin.

Margaret is survived by her children, Tammy (Tom) Groves, of Watertown, SD, Ronald Geranen Jr, of Reno, NV,  Arlyn (Michelle) Geranen, of Cameron, NC, Ernie (Heidi) Geranen, of Dell Rapids, SD, Duane Geranen, of Lake Norden, SD, and Alex Geranen (fiancé Ashlee) of Sioux Falls, SD;  grandchildren: Tyler, Seth and Austin Neilsen, Mikayla, Synnovia and Nicholas Geranen, Natalie and Arlyn Jr. (AJ) Geranen, Seely and Samuel Geranen; siblings, Joseph Mattheisen, David Mattheisen, and Debbie Mattheisen; in-laws, Robert Geranen, Jan (Don) Delaney, Darlene Hawley, Donna (Ray) Eide, Jean (Chuck) Seibert, Roberta (Wayne) Anderson, Marilyn Kinsman, Dale (Marcie) Geranen, and Steve (Barb) Geranen and a host of nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded on death by her husband of 29 years, Ronald Sr.; parents, Daniel and Ann Mattheisen; grandparents, Bill and Bessie Norman and Fred and Minnie Mattheisen; brother, Daniel Mattheisen; parents-in-laws, Ernie and Annie Geranen; brothers-in-laws: Roger Geranen,  Billy Geranen, and Larry Geranen.
