Margaret Joyce (Anderson) Gerhold, daughter of Clarence and Eva (Roberts) Anderson, was born July 13, 1933 at DeSmet, South Dakota. As a child she moved with her family to Castlewood and then to Bremerton, Washington. After World War II they returned to Castlewood where she graduated from high school. Margaret was united in marriage to John J. Gerhold on July 3, 1951 at Webster, South Dakota. They lived in Gilbert, Minnesota until moving to a farm near Castlewood in 1962. John died on December 7, 2004 and Margaret continued to make the farm her home. She died on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 in Sioux Falls at the age of 78 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood, where she was active in Presbyterian Women and sang in the choir for many years. She was also active with the American Red Cross Blood Mobile and enjoyed family activities, her grandchildren's events and the Castlewood Golf Course. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Deborah Janssen and her husband Jim, Daniel Gerhold and his wife Linda, David Gerhold and his wife Kathy, Douglas Gerhold and his wife Sheila, all of Castlewood, Deanne Moes and her husband Tim of Goodwin, SD, Dodi Haug and her husband Daniel of Castlewood; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one brother Gilbert "Bud" Anderson and his wife JoAnn of Prior Lake, MN; one brother-in-law Ross Gerhold and his wife Bonnie of Watertown; two sisters-in-law, Loretta Hanz and her husband Bob of Banning, CA, Verna Johnson of Frankfurt, KY; her special dog "Koda"; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband John and her parents. Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood. Visitation will be from 4PM to 7PM Friday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood.
