Obituary

Margie W. (Hammetter) Janssen, daughter of Herman and Lillie (Wendling) Hammetter, was born December 9, 1914 at Vienna, South Dakota. She spent her early years and received her education in Hamlin County and graduated from Hazel High School in 1932. Margie was united in marriage to Menno Janssen on September 21, 1934 in Watertown. They farmed at rural Vienna for seven years and then moved to a farm near Dempster, South Dakota. Menno died on October 7, 1981 and Margie continued to make the farm her home. She died on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown at the age of 96 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood where she was active in United Presbyterian Women. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking and sewing and quilting. Grateful for having shared her life are one son Wayne "Butch" Janssen and his wife Mary of Castlewood; five grandchildren, Richard Krause and his wife Tammi, Sheila Krause, Ralland Janssen and his fiancé Camille, Kayleen Jensen and her husband Jeffrey and Brenda Janssen; 11 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; a son-in-law DuWayne Krause and his wife Maxine of Watertown; two sisters, Ardelle Yahn of Watertown and Jeanette Singrey of Hazel, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Margie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one daughter Shirley Krause, and two granddaughters, Cynthia Popham and Sonja Kuno. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 8, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church in Castlewood. Visitation will be from 5PM to 7PM Wednesday at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood.
