Marjorie Foster passed away at the age of 89 years on March 18, 2010 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Born as Marjorie Ione Moen on June 1, 1920, Marge was the eldest daughter of Henry Nels Moen and Edla Elizabeth (Danielson) Moen. She and her younger sister, Joyce, grew up on the shores of Lake Poinsett in eastern South Dakota. Marge attended rural schools, graduating from Estelline High School in 1938. On September 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to Merlin (Bud) Foster. They farmed south of Estelline until retirement in 1981 when they built a home in town. In 2007, Marge and Bud moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan so they could be closer to their children and grandchildren.

An active member of the Estelline community, Marge was a member of the United Church of Christ where she served on the church board, was a deaconess, a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Plymouth Guild. She was a Cub Scout leader as well as a member of the Hamlin-Deuel Retarded Childrens Chapter and the Study Club. Marge also volunteered for many years at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. While she always had a stockpile of baked goods in her freezer ready for company, Marge will most be remembered for her crme puffs and homemade doughnuts which she generously shared with her family and friends. In her leisure time, she read extensively, enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles, and attended local school functions even long after her own children were grown.

Marge is survived by her three children: Douglas of Madeira Park, British Columbia, Canada; Joan (Douglas) Doop of Dexter, Michigan; and Dallas (Joanne Sakai) of Mill Valley, California; two granddaughters, Ashleigh Doop of Dexter, Michigan and Jennifer (Matthew) Lombardi of Berea, Ohio; and one brother-in-law, Robert Vojta, of Portland, Oregon as well as several nieces and nephews. Her husband, parents, sister, and daughter-in-law, Terri Murtland, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law preceded her in death.
