Marlys Kveum, age 86, of Estelline, South Dakota, died on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline. A family grave-side service and interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.  Geise Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangement.

Marlys Cleon Archer was born in rural Deuel County, South Dakota, to William and Birdie (Pereboom) Archer on April 7, 1937. She graduated from Estelline High School in 1956. Upon graduation from Estelline High School she lived in North Dakota, South Dakota, and for many years in Joplin, Missouri. In Joplin, MO. she was employed at health care facilities as an admissions receptionist.

After retirement she moved to Marshall, Minn. to be closer to family. She lived in Marshall until 2021 when she was admitted to the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. While in Marshall she had many great friends and neighbors that would stop often to visit, check on her, and help her with what ever she needed.

Marlys was an avid reader and loved to read books and magazines. She very much loved her dogs that shared her companionship over the years. She also loved traveling. Some of the most memorable were vacations with her sister-in-law, Sylvia, showing her the Ozarks, and many other sites in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Missouri. She also loved gardening, watching game shows on T.V., bargain shopping, and listening to vintage vinyl records.

Marlys is preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; 3 brothers, Russell (and Sylvia) Archer, Clyde (and Geneva) Archer, Loren Archer; 3 sisters, Phyllis Archer, Beverly O'Malley, Faye (Herbert) Hildebrandt; 2 nephews, Randy Archer and Gale Archer; 1 niece Deb Archer; and long-time friend and partner Robert Kveum.

Grateful for having shared her life are several nieces and nephews.
