Martin Rasmussen, Jr., son of Martin and Alice (Severson) Rasmussen, was born March 31, 1925 on the family farm north of Bruce, South Dakota. He grew up near Bruce and received his education at rural school district # 57. Martin remained on the family farm and worked for Phil Rasmussen building grain bins for many years. He also worked for many area farmers installing and removing silo unloaders as well as farmed with his brother George. Martin retired in the early 1970?s due to failing health. He entered the Beverly Care Center at Arlington on May 31, 2000 and died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 78 years, 8 month and 1 day. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Bruce and enjoyed attending farm and household sales. Martin also enjoyed helping Doris and her family with general tasks and duties. Grateful for having shared his life are his sister Doris Goodfellow of Bruce; two brothers, George Rasmussen of Bruce and Earl Rasmussen and his wife Sandy of Brookings; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Robert in World War II, Alfred in 1975, Harris in 1999 and Otto in 2001; one sister Margaret Toering in 2002; one niece Opal Toering; and one nephew Rodney Toering.
