Marvin Albert Begalka, son of Gustave and Minnie (Giziewski) Begalka, was born April 3, 1919 in Deuel County, South Dakota. He spent his early years and received his education in rural schools in Deuel and Hamlin Counties. He was united in marriage to Mae Kiihl on July 6, 1947 in Estelline He was employed at the Dempster Coop Elevator until 1950 and from 1951 until 1959 was employed at the Estelline Coop Elevator. He also worked for the Toronto Coop Elevator before working in construction for several years. In 1975 he began custodial work at South Dakota State University and was employed there until his retirement in 1978. He died on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 3 days. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Estelline. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Mae of Estelline; one son Eugene of Estelline; one daughter Linda Bentz and her husband Dale of Pierre, SD; one sister Gladys Falken of Watertown, SD; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Begalka, Delores Begalka and Alberta Kiihl, all of Estelline; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Ervin, Rolland, Leonard, Harold and Herbert; two sisters, Helen in infancy and Margaret; and one daughter-in-law Karen Begalka.
