Mary Haberly Castlewood, South Dakota Memorial Service 10:30 A.M., Thursday, September 20, 2007 First Presbyterian Church Castlewood, South Dakota Rev. Terry Drew, Officiating Private Family Interment Castlewood Cemetery Castlewood, South Dakota Visitation 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Geise Funeral Chapel in Castlewood. Mary Leona (Beman) Haberly, daughter of Dick and Leona (King) Beman, was born November 8, 1915 in Watertown, South Dakota. She attended school in Watertown and Castlewood and was united in marriage to Raymond Haberly on November 29, 1933 in Castlewood. Mary worked at the Drake Motor Inn in Watertown for 28 years. She died on Friday, September 14, 2007 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center, where she had been a resident for one day, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 6 days. She was a fiercely self-reliant woman, enjoyed reading, baking, writing letters, being with her family and friends and spent many hours sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Castlewood Library Board, First Presbyterian Church and United Presbyterian Women. Grateful for having shared her life are three daughters, Janice Vetter and her husband Richard of Rochester, MN, Barbara OConnor and her husband Jerry of Elk River, MN, Mary Janssen and her husband Wayne of Castlewood; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Lucy Hoftiezer of Watertown, SD, Lois Menkveld of California, Wilma McCulley of North Dakota; three brothers, Dunois Beman of Watertown, Bruce Beman of Tennessee, Maurice Beman of Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful, caring friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 1952, one son Leroy in 1954, her parents, two brothers and one sister. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, the Estelline or Castlewood Ambulance Fund or the Castlewood Library.
