(Hammer) Dillow, daughter of Henry and Marie (Jensen) Hammer, was born November 11, 1917 at Castlewood, South Dakota. She grew up and received her education in the Castlewood area and she then moved with her family to Clear Lake, South Dakota. Melva worked as a waitress at the hotel and bus stop in Clear Lake for several years. After her marriage to Roy Dillow they lived in Rapid City where she was employed as a saleswoman for several department stores. Roy died in 1980 and she continued to make Rapid City her home where she cared for her mother, Marie Hammer for several years. She moved to Watertown in 1997 and then moved to the Castlewood Assisted Living Center in 2001. Melva entered the Beverly Healthcare in Lake Norden in April of 2004 and died there on Monday, December 20, 2004 at the age of 87 years, 1 month and 9 days. She was an active member of the Unity Rebecca Lodge in Rapid City and served two terms as Noble Grand. She was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City. Grateful for having shared her life are one son Jerrie Miller and his wife Donna of Castlewood; one daughter, Judi Raphael of Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren, Krista Frederick and her husband Eldon of Bealeton, VA, David Raphael of Chicago, IL and Jennifer Digre and her husband Steve of Hendricks, MN; two great grandchildren, Dylan Frederick and Dalton Klos. Melva was preceded in death by her husband Roy Dillow, her parents, and one brother Melvin Hammer.
