Melvin Edward Buschenfeld, son of John and Bena (Dohlman) Buschenfeld, was born September 9, 1924 in Deuel County, South Dakota. He attended rural school and was later employed at the Chevy Garage and Weinrich Implement in Estelline. Melvin was united in marriage to Alice Blum on March 18, 1945 at Toronto, South Dakota. They farmed in the Estelline-Toronto area for many years and he did mechanic work for neighbors while he was farming. Alice died on November 1, 1992 and Melvin continued to live on the farm until moving to Brookings in 1996. He entered the Estelline Nursing and Care Center on March 30, 2013 and died there on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the age of 91 years. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Estelline and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. Grateful for having shared his life are his son David and his wife Darlene of Estelline; two grandsons, Michael and his wife Lisa of Brookings and Mark and his wife Darlene of Toronto; four great grandchildren, Dani, Dylan, Jacob and Justin; two brothers, Clarence and his wife Delores of Clear Lake, Raymond of Clear Lake; two sisters, Bertha Weinberg of Brookings and Lillian VanDykhorst and her husband John of Watertown; and long time companion Berny Dombek. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, his parents and a brother-in-law Art Weinberg. Melvin's funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Estelline American Legion. Visitation will be Sunday from 5PM to 7PM at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
