Morrell was a pharmacist for many years. He owned and operated pharmacies in Lake City and Rockwell City, Iowa, where he built lasting relationships with his customers and community. Later in his career, he served as a pharmaceutical inspector for the State of Iowa, ensuring the safety and integrity of pharmacy practice across the state.
After retiring, Morrell and Marilyn made their home on Lake Poinsett, South Dakota, where he enjoyed many years of relaxation and outdoor adventure. Morrell was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. Morrell was a member of the Lake Norden Lutheran Church.
