Neva O. Wheelhouse, 87, of Estelline passed away February 12, 2016 at Estelline Nursing & Care Center, Estelline, SD. Funeral Services have been set for 10:00am Friday, February 19, 2016 at American Lutheran Church, Castlewood, SD. A second Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm Friday, February 19, 2016 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD. Neva will be laid to rest at Hills of Rest Memorial Park, Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, February 18, 2016 with a 7:00pm Prayer Service at Geise Funeral Chapel, Estelline, SD.

Neva Opal Burgers was born May 13, 1928 to Maggie Van DerPloeg and John Burgers at Colton, SD. She moved to Jasper and Steen, MN with her parents in 1933. In 1940, she moved to Harisburg, SD.

On February 5, 1945, Neva was united in marriage to George Wheelhouse of Lennox, SD and she farmed with her husband in the Lennox and Canton areas. In 1952, they moved to Beaver Creek, MN and in 1958, they moved to a farm west of Estelline, SD where they retired.

Neva was a member of the Reformed Church for many years. She loved to help work on the farm when she could. Her joy was canning and cooking for family and friends making everybody feel welcome. She also helped with watching grandchildren. Neva also enjoyed caring for other family members and friend's children when needed. Neva loved pets especially dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maggie Burgers; a brother, Walter Burgers; a sister Ida DeJong; a son, Gordon Wheelhouse; a grandson, Doyle Laue and her beloved husband, George.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters, Sharon (Dale) Hattendorf of Castlewood, SD, Marlene (Wayne) Burmeister of Truman, MN, Wanda (Larry) Poppe of Estelline and Lori Moulton of Tea, SD; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
