Obituary

Norene Mae Gering, daughter of Adolph and Beaulah (Denison) Gering, was born April 27, 1923 near White, South Dakota. She attended rural school at Oaklake #62 and graduated from White High School in 1941. Upon completing her teacher's certificate from General Beadle in Madison she started teaching in rural schools near Bruce, Bushnell, White and Dempster. Norene was united in marriage to Lawrence Morris on June 20, 1946 at Lake Benton, Minnesota. They farmed near White until moving to California where Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy. Upon their return to White she resumed her teaching career in Brookings County. Lawrence died on November 27, 1962 and she continued teaching and received her Bachelor's Degree in 1970. She was united in marriage to William Ludwig on August 24, 1967 in Castlewood and she continued teaching in Deubrook until her retirement in 1988. William died on June 30, 1993 and she continued to live in Dempster until moving into Estelline in 2003. Norene died on Friday, April 12, 2013 nearly reaching the age of 90 years. She was a member of the Hamlin Reformed Church, the Reformed Church Women and the Estelline Senior Citizens. She enjoyed playing cards, painting, reading and sewing. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Mike Morris and his wife Karla of Craig, CO, Rita Linneman (Mike) of Grand Canyon, AZ, Rex Morris and his wife Irene of Ramah, NM, Jill Morris of Toronto, SD, Leah Rae Ludwig and her husband Jon Dill of Rapid City, SD; two step-children, Leonard Ludwig and his wife Darlene of Bruce, SD, Ruth Bartelson and her husband Doug of Custer, SD; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; one sister Lethe Anderson of Brookings, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, her parents, and one sister Ramona. Her funeral service will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 15, 2013 at Hamlin Reformed Church, rural Castlewood. Burial will be in the Dempster Cemetery and visitation will be held from 2PM to 5PM Sunday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
