Pearl E. Nelson, 91, of Lake Norden, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Golden Living Center, in Lake Norden. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday at Geise Funeral Chapel, in Lake Norden.

Pearl E. Veneklasen was born on May 5, 1925 in Estelline, SD the daughter of Peter and Tillie (DeGroot) Veneklasen. She attended school in Estelline and then worked at a grocery store in Estelline. She was united in marriage to Lyle Nelson on April 15, 1944 in Bryant, SD. The couple farmed near Lake Norden until their retirement in 1990, when they moved to Lake Norden.

Pearl was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, and a member and treasurer for the Women's Circle, as well as treasurer for the Senior Citizens Center. She often volunteered her time to help during elections in Hamlin County for a number of years. Pearl enjoyed raising her flower garden, playing bingo and going on trips to the casino. She loved listening to country music, and going to Branson, MO, and other concert halls in the area to see country concerts. She was a fan of the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves, and followed them very closely. She was known by many as the 'Egg Lady' when she would deliver fresh eggs to families in Lake Norden.  She was a member of the You Go, I Go card club for a number of years. Most of all, her greatest joy was spend time and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her three sons, Darwin (Barb) Nelson, of Kokomo, IN, Larry (Rose) Nelson, of Lake Norden, SD and Roger (Pat) Nelson, of Lake Norden, SD; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one sister, Rose Kancir, of Denver, CO; and a host of relatives.

Pearl is preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers, Les and Bob.
