Ralph E. Kasdorf was born on October 18, 1925, in Egan, SD, the son of Arthur and Emma (Platts) Kasdorf. Ralph lived in the state of Washington for about 22 years before moving back to South Dakota. He was employed as a Green Thumb employee for 12 years for the City of Estelline Medical Facilities. He started with general outside maintenance at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center and t he Estelline Community Hospital. He also worked transporting food carts with patient meals. After the closing of the hospital, he took on indoor custodial work as well, at the same building now housing the Estelline Medical Facilities. He died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center at the age of 87 years. Ralph was a member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline. He especially enjoyed working with old iron. Grateful for having shared his life are two brothers, Floyd Kasdorf and his wife Cora of Bruce, SD, John "Jack" Kasdorf and his wife Bev of Watertown, SD; nine sisters, Marian Sween of Estelline, Maxine Friskey of Estelline, Vera Sween of Gary, SD, Eleanor Alderman of Volga, SD, Mary Leibfried and her husband James of Manitoba, Canada, Joyce Flisrand and her husband Milton of Arlington, SD, Bonnie Begalka of Brookings, Ruth Rasmussen and her husband Gayle of Ivanhoe, MN, Bertha Higgins and her husband Jim of Kittitas, WA; many nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends, He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Arthur, Kenneth and Fred, and one sister Frances. His memorial service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Visitation will be one hour preceding services at the church.
